A Fair Division of labour ...

... as I was listening to the radio the other day, there was a comment about the different jobs that men and women do at Christmas.  It struck a chord.

Women:

buy the presents
wrap the presents;

buy the food
cook the food;

buy the cards
write the cards;

buy/find the decorations
put up the decorations, etc, etc.

Men:
Buy the batteries!

That sort of struck a chord with me.  Mr Fixit's comment when I told him? "Yep, that seems fair enough.  I've bought the batteries by the way."

  1. Ha....that's so perfect. My husband has already told the grandkids that if something happens to me there will be no more gifts. I'm sure there would be no more cards either.

  2. Haha....that is perfect! I wasn't even going to decorate this year. Don't mind the setting up and enjoying. But the taking down and putting away is awful. Anyway, I heard my husband in the basement....making a lot of noise....brought up a couple of boxes and said if I wasn't going to decorate then he would! Of course, then he walked in and sat down in front of the TV. So I decorated a little, just enough to pass for a celebration and was quite happy.

  3. LOL that is very true in many cases, but I am obviously a spoiled diva cause DH got the decorations and put the tree and lights up. We bought the gifts together after much discussion, and we always cook together in the kitchen. So it is not quite as bad....at least for me. Just call me princess.

  5. No man around here, so I have to buy the batteries, too.
    Very cute.

  6. Im not sure my husband even buys the batteries, but he does recharge them when the kids toys require it! Add my birthday in to the mix...he does have to buy a few presents and wrap them, but only if he cannot get the shop to do it!! AND he wanted me to cook on my birthday, "its only a bbq" he claims...yeah right, cos I have to buy the ingredients, make the salads and all he has to do is cook the meat. And then who is going to clean up!?

  7. Nope. Mine doesn't buy the batteries. But he does eat the food. Does that count?

  8. Mine might help with much of the cooking, but the grocery bill will be at least quadruple what it should be! And he would have to buy the batteries, because I could never choose any to suit him.

  9. It sure sounds correct to me, too and if I moan about it, I just get the "look". Take care.

  10. Yup that's the way it goes here too most of the time. This year DH says do you have the Christmas cards out yet-Nope I say I am thinking of not sending any-he like gasps and says but people will be hurt if you don't.
    A few days later I decide I better since I had them made. But I tell him if he wants to send a letter with them he has to do it-he decides not to, LOL. I proceed to shove the cards in the envelope and he is standing there watching me after 3 I say here you do the shoving and I'll put the stamp on it. Then I make him help seal them up-maybe he'll get the drift it takes time!! Merry Christmas to all :-)

  11. you hit the nail on the head here Sue, just as well I have nothing that needs batteries as no man to buy them!

  12. Men also open the presents, eat the food, read the cards and enjoy the lovely decorations creating tons of garbage and dirty dishes. lol

  14. I think your post resonates with many women, me included! I wonder if it might be somewhat our own faults, though. I want things done my way, and I'd just as soon do it myself as to have to accept changes to my preconceived notion of how I want things done. (I sound like an old busy-body, but I don't think I am. I just want certain traditions to be maintained.)

  16. Ha, ha. :) My hubby also gets the tree - went out on skis and brought it home on a pack frame on his back this year, puts up the tree and adds the lights, carves the turkey and pours the wine. And I think he believes he is overworked.

  17. Mine does hang the ceiling decorations but that is only because I can't reach the high ceilings even with the ladder.
