Ouch!!!

Cartoon illustration of young woman on couch with foot elevated and ice pack on her ankle.
I have just got back from the doctor who has confirmed that I have gout which is a form of arthritis apparently. After Friday my foot got worse and by Sunday was swollen to about twice it's size, bright red, and painful doesn't even begin to describe it!  He thinks it's caused by some other pills I've been taking, even though I've had those for years.  I have to stop those, but take the anti-inflamatories and the painkillers he's given me, keep off my foot and keep it raised for a week and that should clear it for now.  Then I start the pills again and we see what happens! I'm feeling sorry for myself!

  1. Oh dear, You have every right to feel sorry for yourself. I've had gout, it's horrible. In my case it was diet related. I chose not to medicate, changed my diet, and waited it out. It took about 2 months for the pain to go away. Hope you're up and feeling better soon!

  3. Does not sound one bit fun. I have no experience with gout but do know it can be very painful. I hope you can manage sewing.

  4. That does not sound like any fun at all. You need an EPP project to keep you out of trouble and on the couch with your feet up!

  7. I had a little run in with Gout several months ago. It is a build up of Uric acid in your system. In other words, you are too acid, and you need to balance and become more alkaline. I did some research and found that Apple Cider Vinegar helped me in just a couple of day. There are many pros and cons, but you can do a web search and find out the info yourself. Not sure if you can find ACV in your part of the world, but it certainly helped me :-)

  8. Yep Yep Yep! All that stuff what you're eating! How about revisiting our ap-PLEEK-ay lesson? Your pumpkins might wind up a little distorted while supine, but you can blame it on me!

  9. Grab a good book and take some time off! Take advantage of the excuse to do nothing....sounds like a plan to me! Feel better in your own time.

  14. After meeting you on Friday, I don't want you in pain. No stand-up quilting, though I suppose handsewing is OK. Hope the pain goes quickly & I'll give you a ring over the next few days to make sure you're getting better. Take care.

  20. sounds most unpleasant, I see lots of comments have mentioned diet, rumour has it that it can be drink related Sounds like you will be unable to use the machine for a while, maybe you will be working on new designs, reading hand stitching instead, do hope it gets better quickly and you can keep it under control

  21. Sorry to hear of your foot problem, hopefully the change in medication will help. My joint pain and inflammation was cured by not eating gluten/wheat.

  23. When my husbands acts up his go-to cure is 100% tart cherry juice. It truly helps! Drink a small glass daily.
