Simply Modern Christmas by Cindy Lammon, has
some great patterns which will allow you to dress your house for
Christmas. It includes 14 projects ranging
from bed quilts and wall hangings, to Christmas Stockings and a table runner
and a tree skirt.
Although most of the patterns are shown in traditional Christmas
colours, ie red and green, I think they would all work in other colours for
other times of the year. Imagine this one, for example,
made up with that special fabric you can't bear to cut up, and this one, with its many pieces, would make a fantastic I-spy quilt for children.
As I would expect from any book published by Martingale, the
instructions are very clear and each pattern has many diagrams. I also enjoyed
the photography in this book. Each quilt
is shown in a styled shot (I love the Christmas tree they used on the front
cover too) and as a full-face shot so you can see exactly what you are getting
into before you start.
My favourite project?
This Christmas Tree skirt, which I might just have to make before I put
my tree up this year.
Now, I think I may have mentioned a giveaway in the title of this post? Well, Martingale Publications are offering an e-book version of this book to one of you. All you have to do is leave a comment below telling me what colours you use to decorate for Christmas.
The giveaway small print:
1. This giveaway is open to everybody, wherever you live, BUT please remember to make sure I can contact you if you are the winner.
2. If you are a no-reply person, you will not be entered unless you leave an email address in your comment as I will not be able to get in touch with you. (Note, if you are a Google+ person, you will be no-reply).
3. This giveaway will also be available on the Yorkshire Modern Quilters' blog.
4. The giveaway will close next Saturday, 25 October.
5. The winner will be selected using Mr Random Generator.
What colors do I decorate with? Red and Green of course (!) though I'll admit to sneaking in a pop of lime or turquoise when I can, just because. Really my décor is pretty eclectic (meaning anything goes!).

i love every thing Christmas, thanks for the chance
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely surprise giveaway. I decorate my tree with lots of colour in the decorations, but don't do a lot else, so I suppose you could say "multi-coloured". Take care.
ReplyDeleteI do very little decorating these years - just my mantel which is either done in my little blue and white snow men or around my collection of mini old world Santas.
ReplyDeleteI love decorating everything for Christmas, one tree with loads of eclectic decorations, an angel and snowflake tree, wooden ornaments on the smaller tree in the porch, tatted snowflakes on the small table tree and one with knitted ornaments for my grandsons to decorate.
ReplyDeleteIt depends. Sometimes it is red and blue, other years it is red and green, or green and yellow. Yes we have a John Deere Christmas tree some years.
ReplyDeleteI decorate with a traditional red & green theme - thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteRed and green. It's traditional, after all!
ReplyDeleteRed & gold at ours Sue !
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great book !
I try to be all trendy and go for one or two colours and tiny twinkling LED lights, but really I love the old fashioned multicoloured lights with their shiny foil surrounds.
ReplyDeleteI have a mix in each room. Blue and red in the dining room. A collection of multicoloured ornaments on the tree. And this year some teal cushions I have made.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a beautiful book! As for my decorating, it is usually an electic mix of traditional colors like red, green, gold and silver. However, last year my dining room table top tree was white with white, red and glass baubles and angels. It was beautiful and glowed. I hope to win this book so I can make a quilt in reds and whites as I have some winter themed fabrics to use. Thanks, repaana@aol.com
ReplyDeleteI had a new white twiggy tree last year and will continue the theme this year with gold and silver and white lights. Lovely book and thanks for a chance to win
ReplyDeleteI have done traditional red and green for years but lately have added some newer things with the lime greens and aquas.
ReplyDeleteI like the lime greens and blues added to muted reds and greens. I love Christmas!!! Would love to win the book.
ReplyDeleteI'm a traditional Christmas color gal which I think would work just fine with the patterns in this book. I like the Christmas Tree skirt also.
ReplyDeleteVery traditional red and green. But I'm branching out to turquoise and pink!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great book. For Christmas decorating for the most part I stick with traditional Red and Green with some Gold mixed in for a classic elegance look.
ReplyDeleteI get turquoise and purple for my granddaughter's room and pretty traditional (many colors) for me! We love to add silver for some sparkle though.
ReplyDeletejudystolz@hotmail.com is an email address you can get me at.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a wonderful book! I use mostly a combination of traditional red and green quilts to decorate. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI decorate with red and green but I have started using the newer reds and greens with blue tucked in there.
ReplyDeleteI must admit that I use traditional reds, greens and golds with a splash of white (snowmen!). And that most of my decorations are so old they are fast becoming vintage.....
ReplyDeleteI use the Moda folk art green, red and caramel colors. They still speak to me.
ReplyDeleteI use burgandy and green to decorate. I made a tree skirt last year which my daughter claimed so I need to get busy and make myself another one.
ReplyDeleteI use Traditional colors to decorate for Christmas..red & green! :)
ReplyDeleteI use red and white ! thank you!
ReplyDeleteI just love this book. A lot of inspiration - just in time for holiday presents. I want to decorate my white tree in blue lights with blue ornaments. It's not that I want a blue Christmas but I really love the color blue.

Traditional red and green, with a bit of gold and cream!
ReplyDeleteI usually use traditional colours, red, green, white and gold. But last year I fell in love with blue, pinks, and lime greens. And of course I love glitter and snowflakes! speddar at hotmail dot com
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway.

Red, green, white, gold, silver, blue -- tends to be eclecctic as the kids come home with many colored crafts at that time of year, but mostly red and green. sarah@forrussia.org
ReplyDeleteFor most of our 31 years of marriage, our Christmas colors have been red and gold (Iowa State colors). I am slowing moving over into purple and silver just because I love purple and need a change!
ReplyDeleteBlues, gold, sunflower, and white for snow:)
ReplyDeleteI am going with the traditional reds, and greens this year. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI will probably use traditional red and green but who knows. I like some of the patterns in this book. It looks like a good one.
ReplyDeleteI use red and green, but I have some of Maude Asbury's Treelicious that I can't figure out what to do with, so this book might solve that problem.
ReplyDeleteooo I like the examples from the book - very nice!

Red green and gold! But I'm loving the addition of navy I'm seeing here and there...
ReplyDeleteTraditional - red, green and white!
ReplyDeleteI've been into blue and silver lately!

I tend to use cream and burgundy--- but I change this up every few years.
ReplyDeleteI'm somewhat eclectic; mostly traditional red and green with contemporary Christmas colours (i.e. everything else!) thrown in.
ReplyDeleteReally like the new, fresh look of these Christmas quilts.
ReplyDeleteChristmas is my fave season! Yes, bright reds and greens all the way for decorating.
ReplyDeleteI used beige and white to decorate, then the tree with all the different colors and lights stands out! We do have a den that doesn't have anything in it. Now that I'm learning to quilt would be fun to add decorations in there! Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeletethe last two years it has been fuchsia…but this year it is going to be sea glass greens and teals
ReplyDeleteWe use lots of colors for Christmas decorating, but mainly Green, Gold and red. The colors really give the house a special feeling for a special holiday.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance.
