Well, who'd have thought ...

... that free-motion quilting can be a dangerous sport?

Well it can.  I managed to try and quilt my finger!  I just missed the nail but went through my finger. It hurt, but I was very brave and luckily I didn't break the needle.

It did put a stop to my FMQ antics for today cos it keeps bleeding, so, since it's cold and raining here today, I decided to console myself with a lovely cup of hot chocolate with some cream on top, and a good book

  1. Ouch! I haven't done that - yet. BUT I have stitched the tips of my machinger glovess into place a few times.

  2. Ouchy Sue, it reminds me of the time when I was little and I sewed through my nail-not just the nail though, owwww!

  3. Ouch, ouch. I've heard of people doing that (and I've nicked the edge of a fingernail on a couple of occasions) but never a full-on puncture.

Hope you're feeling much better soon; never underestimate the restorative power of a mug of hot chocolate :-)

  5. Wow obviously when I FMQ I do not get my hand that close. Maybe that is why mine is awful.

  6. Ouch I feel your pain, I did this a month ago...just realised a bit of the needle is still in my finger, so be sure to check yours when the bleeding stops.

  15. I feel your pain - have you tried taking arnica? It really helps with the bruising. Last time I sewed through my finger (yes, I've done it more than once) I broke the needle and Hubby had to remove it with pliers!

  16. I'm sure that was't fun! I hope it heals quickly. Did you have to get a tetanus shot too?

  17. Silly girl - you're supposed to quilt the fabric, not your finger. Hope it feels better soon!!

  18. Yeowchie! I feel your pain! I've rammed the needle into my nail a couple of times and once took a little flap off the corner of my index finger with the rotary cutter! Nothing that has required a good hand surgeon yet though! Knock on wood!

  19. Oh, ouch!!!!! I hope you heal quickly!! That's why I quilt with both hands on the handles :) Never even got close, but it is always on my mind!!

  20. Not good! Hopefully it will heal quickly and you can get back to work. I forget to put bandaids in my sewing room and have been known to wrap fabric scraps around the cuts until I get upstairs for a real bandage. The hot chocolate does look good tho.
