... that's what was going on at my house on Wednesday. Do you remember that Scrappy and I had been making some charity quilts? Well one day, Scrappy had a good idea. Wouldn't it be nice, she said, to make a tote bag for each quilt? Yes, said I, and it would be great if they had a block on them the same as the quilts themselves. Hmm, yes well .....
They were both good ideas, until it came to Wednesday when we were making them. We decided we don't like making totes, but, by the end of the day we had finished them. (If you look closely, you will notice that the idea of putting blocks on them didn't last too long.)
The day did not go without mishap. Don't you hate when you are sewing a long seam, get to the end and then realise you've run out of bobbin thread? Yes, so do I. Especially when you put a new bobbin in, start the seam again, sew along merrily then realise you had run out of top thread a while ago!
what a good way to store quilts, a very productive day you two had. I know what you mean about the bobbin, I wish machines had a way of letting you know, maybe the latest ones do, mine are all old, just like me!
ReplyDeleteHope to see you on saturday and Scrappy too of course.
Lovely idea and well done for sticking with it, even though it proved to be hard work. I can't wait for someone to invent a beep or something when the bobbin is "nearly" out of thread, so you don't keep sewing aimlessly. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it's not just me who doesn't like making bags :-)
ReplyDeleteDo you remember how Ali was forever creating lovely patchwork bags?
I guess they just haven't come up with the endless spool or self winding bobbin yet. The bags are great. I don't enjoy making bags either.
ReplyDeleteBut the totes will serve such a nice purpose. How about taking off your top thread to do some hand sewing. Go back to the machine, run a bunch of pieces through to only realize...forgot to rethread the machine.
ReplyDeleteall I can think to say is "oh dear...guess it just wasn't your day!" The totes though, are a lovely and generous idea! Maybe a pillowcase to slip the quilts into would be a bit easier and still be useful, then you wouldn't have to fuss with setting in handles?????
ReplyDeleteThere should be alarms on machines to tell you when you run out of threads!!!! Great totes for a days work!

ReplyDeleteBeen there done that to many times-running out of bobbin thread, grrr. Your totes look wonderful and will go nicely with the quilts. Just got back from a mini vacation of bkiking, kayaking, camping and visiting our son and his wife. Gotta kick it into high gear the next few weeks!
ReplyDeleteTote free zone this week! X
