What the $%&*#~ ?

Bertha's feeling much better now.  She had a few days in hospital but when she came home she was worse than ever.  I was very worried about her, but I left her alone with Mr Fixit and his big screwdrivers for a day while I went to play with Scrappy, and when I came home, she was all better.  To celebrate I put this large quilt on the frame and spent the next day quilting it, but .....

....  I got it wrong.  Measure twice, cut once, "they" always say. What a shame I didn't listen.

I actually made this top, and the backing about a year ago, which means I have no more of the backing fabric left so I'm going to have t.o improvise.  The quilt is my version of a Missouri Star tutorial which you can see here.

By the way, I've now joined the current century, and started a Pinterest page where I will show all my quilts. The board is by no means complete yet, but I am working on it.  If anyone wants to see them, they are here

  1. I am so glad to hear Bertha is better, I had been wondering how that is going. My Ima acted up a bit yesterday, I need to put on muslin and just get her back to normal(I hope that does it). Some thread boogers on the bottom. What was Bertha doing? BTW the quilt is really pretty, but sorry you have to improvise-wishing you luck!

  2. That problem seems to be happening around here too. The last few quilts my Mom has sent off to the long armer have come back with a quick 'addition' so she can re-load on the machine and finish the job.

  3. Do you ever read a blog, and misread a word? I was reading about you joining Pinterest, and for some reason my decrepit mind thought you wrote this Broad is by no means complete. Obviously I need a nap.As to the measuring inaccurately I could just say oh I had such wonderful dense quilting that there was a lot of shrinkage for the background and batting. :D

  5. I'm so sorry that Bertha has been unwell and that SHE slipped up and short-sheeted your backing! We will forgive her... after all, she was ill & she really was off to a fantastic start...the design is lovely and I love those stars too!

  7. Such a great quilt! Hopefully the backing issue will not be to difficult to fix. I like a pieced backing!

  8. Oh dear, what a hassle, but I'm sure you are definitely not alone with not cutting something right. Glad Bertha is feeling better and now there will be no stopping you. Can we see the quilt once finished. I'll take a look at your Pinterest page(have you on my follow list) as I have one too, but don't know how to load my own stuff, but I do have a bit of fun looking at all sorts. Take care.

  10. Oh, bummocks (as Kath would say). I've never managed to 'short myself' on a backing but there's always a first time.

Congrats to Mr Fixit for managing to wrangle Bertha back to life.
