Lone Star day - post 4

Uh-oh.  I think I have a problem.

You know all the background pieces, which may or may not be inset (jury's still out on that one)?   Well, I am wondering if that is just too much blank space, and have been thinking that some applique might look good in those areas.

Whaaattttt?

Applique?

Me?

I hate doing applique so where on earth has this idea popped up from?

Don’t forget you can Link with me here.

  1. You might want to do a google search of 'images of ' to see how othrs filled in those areas. My mom does a lot of hand quilting in them.

  2. You have a few other options to applique. You could do some paper piecing like Elizabeth is doing for her Lone Star. You can also design some pieced blocks that tie in with the Lone Star design. Another one is the open space could lend itself to some creative quilting with differnt coloured threads.

  3. I was looking at your banner...the flower pots are beautiful...maybe paper pieced like Vicki suggested?

  4. Applique or some of your beautiful machine quilting would be nice in the large, open areas!

  5. No Sue, you don't want to be thinking "The A Word". These are lovely spaces for quilting ... feather wreaths?

  6. I am putting applique in my empty spaces. But I am cheating. You'll see...

  7. My preference is fancy quilting - like Bilbo said, feather wreaths. I have seen some beautiful Lone Stars with applique, and I would love one, if I had it, but the fancy quilting suits me more, I think! That's my 2 cents' worth!
