Happy New Year and Christmas Quiltalong ...
... I'd like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year, and I hope that 2013 brings you everything that you wish for yourselves.
Now I want to talk about the Christmas Quiltalongs. As you know, for about 3 or 4 years, I have been running the Christmas QALevery month. The first couple of years I did it alone, then the third year I had the help of Cathi from Shakerwood Quilts, and last year we had a number of different hostesses. It has been a lot of fun, and I have really enjoyed organising these days, but I have noticed that the number of participants on these days has been dwindling and so I feel that the time has come to stop. So, I have decided that this year I will not be running the Christmas QAL's, The question is, what to do next? Any ideas anyone?

I've enjoyed following along with your Quiltalongs, but Saturdays are the day that I'm least likely to sew, so I've never been able to play along. I'll be watching to see if you come up with something new for 2013.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the first Quiltalong I've participated in, (although blogless), but would be up for a challenge on whatever else you can come up with. Quick idea! I have a ruler fettish and have been trying to use some of them over the past few years, so maybe a challenge along those lines. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Thanks for a great blog. OzSue
ReplyDeleteMy hat's off to you, QuiltSue, for all of the work you put into the qal's and especially for giving us the beautiful quilt patterns. You've always been the best of hostesses, so thanks so much. I have noticed that it's the usual suspects participating, but I would hate to quit altogether. I wonder if we could do a one post type of qal, where we would not have to do a day-long update but rather just a post to show what we are up to. The difference is that there would be a bit of commitment. I'm also open to starting a qal day for finishing projects, mostly because I have so many:), but I would try to keep it to a one or two post kind of thing and it would be very casual. However, if there isn't any interest, that's fine too. My quilting resolution is to finish those projects.
ReplyDeleteYou have done a great job on the Quiltalongs. Like Sunny I have enjoyed following along as to what was going on....Saturdays for me are not a good day to sew. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with, but once again GREAT job to you for all work on the Quiltalongs!!!
ReplyDeleteSue, you were wonderful to organize these for us. I got more Christmas projects done, thanks to you. The quiltalongs were fun, but like Sunny, Saturdays are difficult for me.
ReplyDeleteAs for what's next? Perhaps another book in the works?
Sue, your Christmas quiltalong was great and I am very proud of the Festive Mystery quilt that is at the foot of our bed. I just love it! Thank you so much for coordinating and hosting the QAL for us! I did miss several Saturdays...sometimes life gets in the way of quilting! But what fun we had when we all showed up for the party! Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI think you do a great job at your Christmas QAL. Can't think of a single thing to suggest.

I've enjoyed looking at your Christmas QAL but never been able to participate.
ReplyDeleteHow about a UFO finishing up day? But like the others have said, not on a Saturday :}
I agree!
ReplyDeleteAs I work full time, Saturdays are hard to devote to a quilt along day.
I would like to do a UFO day too, maybe a Sunday...
Thanks for all you do!
Take care, Leslie
I just found out about your Christmas QAL. I was looking forward to it, but something different will also be fine and I look forward to another QAL.
ReplyDeleteWah!!! I certainly understand you not continuing them, but I so loved them!!! What about a week long quiltalong? Say, the second week of the month, and we work on our Christmas stuff and post on whichever day works for our schedules? I just know I will not get near as much done with these to look forward to! Thanks so very, VERY much for all your hard work!!
ReplyDeleteI love our quiltalong days! But I also understand the hard work that you put into them! I've 'met' some smashing girls over the last couple of year's QAL days, and it would be such a shame to lose that.
ReplyDeletePerhaps do it on a Sunday?
Perhaps a 'do your own Christmas project' (although I just loved the Festive Mystery month by month!)
Perhaps every 2 months not every month?
Mind you, if you have over about 8-10 peeps joining in on Mr Linky, I do find it tricky on the day to keep up with visiting and seeing what everyone is up to - which is SO much fun! - so more people is not necessarily better, in my view.
I think I did your first QAL and it was great and you were the super hostess. Saturday's aren't my best days to do things either, but then I'm not into collecting any more Christmas anything, so I sort of fizzled out on ya. No suggestions though, as I'm finding I'm more of an independent quilter. I just sort of go at my own pace. I do love linky Fridays--or whatever day of the week is chosen and I post with others when I have a completion and then take some time to look around. It's always fun to see what others are doing.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll find a million other quilting themes and ideas to work on.
I never got the chance to participate in the QAL so I hope you do something this year. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting the QAL i just caught the tail end of it in 2011 and LOVED taking part in 2012. As for what to do next maybe instead of a big quilt smaller projects. I do agree with Hazel bigger isn't always better with group numbers...LOL
ReplyDeleteI loved the qal's. It got confusing to me when it had a different host. I enjoyed the games you had in the first two years. You are just a very busy gal now and it is harder to do. You did make it a blast and I enjoyed them much.
