Country Charmer progress ...

Due to circumstances beyond my control (I decided to go down with flu turning to a bronchitis type of thing cos I felt that it was my turn for some sympathy) progress has not been good this month. I have not even been near my sewing machine for two weeks.  Excuses, excuses!

That changed yesterday, and I made another block.  Today I am hoping to get at least two more blocks done.  This month several people have mentioned the "puzzle page" that Lynn has provided with the patterns, so I thought I'd talk about it too.
Here's a picture of it naked, and you can see that all the block pieces are shown.  The idea is that you can then cut the fabric for your block and lay them out on the sheet so you can see what your finished block will look like and also so you can keep track of the 53 pieces that are needed for one block, like this
It is such a clever idea, and I have found it very useful in helping me to decide which fabrics to use where.

Here is a picture of my progress so far.  As you can see, I've still got quite a way to go to catch up with some people, but I will get there eventually.

There are people all over the world making this quilt, called Country Charmer, designed by Lynn from Sew'n Wild Oaks.  You can buy the pattern here, and join us.  This is a very laid back sort of quiltalong, being hosted by Lesley, The Cuddle Quilter and a couple of times a month Lynn is writing a post with some handy hints and tips on things like colour choices, etc, and on the 1st of every month Lesley is holding a Linky party, so do hop over to both of them and see what's going on.  There's a Flickr group too, so as you can see, there's lots of places to go for hints, tips, encouragement and inspiration.  Thanks Lynn and Lesley.

  2. Sue, I suspected you were not feeling well 'cause you were just too quiet out there in blog land! Glad you're feeling better. Your blocks are gorgeous...and do they ever look nice against the backdrop of your couch fabric! Looking forward to seeing your next batch in April. Thanks so much for linking up.

  3. Oh, I feel for ya as I went thru the same illness - not fun! You will catch up - and it's about our own speed with the project anyway. Love the new banner quilt!

  4. I'm so glad you are feeling better Sue. I've missed you! Your blocks are just beautiful. I think you've found your sashing fabric. The stripes from your couch will do quite nicely! Take good care of yourself and I'm looking forward to see what you come up with next month.

  5. There You Are! I've been busy but not so much as to notice that you've been pretty quiet too & I assumed it was because your nose was to the treadle!
That Lynn is such a smarty pants! Sashing from your couch indeed!!! Hmmm...maybe on review, she's not joking afterall!

  6. I've never seen a designer offer a layout grid before but it's an excellent idea when there are so many pieces.

Your six blocks look terrific laid out like that.

  7. Love those blocks and I also thought about your sashing being striped, because of the lounge. Did notice you had been too quiet and was about to send email. I will be so far behind as I still have not received my pattern.

  12. So sorry to hear about your flu bug. Hope that old bug is long gone by now. Love the idea of the "puzzle page" to lay out your block pieces to see how your block will look. Looks like it would be a good aid to sewing it together correctly the first time as well. Your blocks are gorgeous. Good work, well done! Here is to good health and more sewing time!

Have a super great sewing and stitching day!

  13. I agree with everyone, your blocks are great and look beautiful on that light couch. I am so happy you are better. I am a little slow right now, working on some other projects. I just bought a bunch more fabric and now I have lost some interest. I am glad there is no hurry. Take care.

  14. Sorry to hear you've not been well, sounds like you're on the mend now. I like the idea of the printed out pattern to try out the colour choices, better than an expensive mistake when things don't work out.

BTW I love the red quilt on your title banner.

  16. It's been a while since I've been here (at your blog) and I just wanted to say I so enjoyed it! The butter post and answers were fun, as is Mr-Fixit's observation of the quilt. I'm going away laughing. I do hope you feel better.
