Is it only me .....

.... who can use a satnav and still get lost?  Yesterday I needed to go somewhere the other side of the big scary city where I live.  I have been to this place before, but not often, so I took the satnav with me.  Near to my destination there have been roadworks and alterations going on for years, but that was OK.  Except, yesterday I found "they" have finished the roadworks, and closed off the road I wanted to go down.  "They" made me turn left. I could see where I wanted to be, but couldn't get there.  I turned left onto a new dual carriageway.  Tom, the little guy who sits in my satnav and reads the maps for me, was not happy.  His map didn't have this new bit of road on.  He told me to do a u-turn immediately.  Not possible Tom, it's a dual carriageway with a barrier between me and the other side of the road.  Then he told me to turn right.  Not possible Tom, there were no openings in the barrier.  Then he told me to take the next left.  Not possible Tom, due to the idiot sitting on my rear bumper on the left hand side.  So I just drove for a while without a clue as to where I was.  Tom sulked.  I drove.  Eventually, after a couple of miles Tom stopped sulking and decided to help.  Pheww, he finally got me there, but what should have been an 8 mile journey ended up being over 15 miles.

  3. That the trouble with the Satnav we proved it years ago as we was going somewhere we knew & go to often & my son was taking us & had put in the destination & it wanted to go all sorts of different ways & there was no roadworks to be blamed either so guess who doesn't have a SatNav
Glad you got there in the end

  4. Tom toms in the city are hard. They do not have time to catch up when you make mistakes or they do. Glad you got there ok....

  5. Our GPS voice is really stern. I'm almost afraid of her!

  6. SatNavs are OK - to a point. Ours is called Joyce (sounds like a certain Mrs Grenfell - and you have to be a certain age to remember her!).

  7. I've held out from getting a satnav as I prefer to plan on a map before I set off. It's not perfect and I do sometimes wish I had one. The big city certainly is scary!

  8. Ha ha, they're not good when they think you're going across a field. Funnily enough I went on a new bit of road today and fooled the satnav as well. Fortunately, it joined up with the correct road, so all was well. I love maps, but wouldn't be without the TomTom now, it makes going somewhere new so much easier!

PS, did I miss the Christmas Quiltalong today? I was out at an area day ...

  9. You had me going. I did not know satnav. Throw in your "big scary city" and I was getting some very strange images. I enjoyed the laugh once I got it. Thanks. Glad you made it home.

  10. Sat Nav's cause a whole packet of trouble down here, sending larger than life trucks to places where they have no right to be.
I can always send you a good map book. Cut the 15 miles to at least 8.
    Women can navigate....... :-)x x x

  11. I can't do without my Garmen (Satnav). I'm not one of those who can drive and read the map at the same time - hugs Nat

  12. Yes I've been lost following a Satnav. Funnily enough that was in your part of the world.
My Sat Nav also doesn't know where my local quilt shop is either, but I think that's because Mal has had a word.

    Love and hugs Gina xxx

  13. I call mine the "lady" who tells me where to go.
It's not a perfect system, but overall she has been good to me. She led me into a bad neighborhood once and I was really mad at her for awhile.

  14. Oh my hubby's "other wife" as I call her asked us to drive off a cliff. (Good thing we were too smart for that!) I suppose there used to be a road? Or was she just trying to get rid of me?

  15. Hi Sue!!
When traveling down South we rely on Gidget (the Gadget)...isn't it funny how we all have names for our GPS? Ours is a ladies voice so of course can't have a man's name. She is SEW smart...she knows where EVERY where quilt Shop is - from the Canadian Border to the RV resort in Palm Springs...I figure Gidget MUST be a quilter!!:o)
Glad you got there safely..take care!
