Recipe Swap ............

............. OK, I'll show you mine, if you'll show me yours.  I thought it would be fun to all post a Christmas recipe, so I'll tell you how to make my gingerbread men/snowmen/blobs.

Gingerbread Men:
Ingredients
350g plain flour
100g butter
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
2 tsp ground ginger
1 egg
4 tbsps Golden Syrup
175 g light, soft brown sugar
Method
Preheat the oven to 180 C/350 F/Gas Mark 4
Put the flour, butter, bicarb and ginger in a bowl and mix to fine breadcrumbs
Add the egg, syrup and sugar and mix to a firm dough
Chill for 30 mins.  (I meant the dough, not you.)
Dust your surface and rolling pin with flour and roll out to about 5 mm thick
Cut out shapes of men, trees, blobs or whatever you want, and put them on a baking tray, leaving room for them to spread, just as I did as I got older
Cook for 10 - 15 mins
Cool them on a wire rack, and decorate as you wish.

This makes about 15 men.

Mr Bossy Boots Linky is 2 posts back now.

  2. Oh Boy, that's just what I need. Next time I'll bake ahead, just for more atmosphere. Is golden syrup what we call corn syrup?
I like Soggibottom's recipe ideas:) I keep it simple and just pore a glass of wine. If I weren't going to church I'd have some now.

  3. One of my standby recipes for Christmas Pot Luck Parties:
    CRAB MOLD

1 can Cr. of Chicken Soup
1 Tbsp. gelatin dissolved in 3 Tbsp. water
    8 oz. cream cheese

Mix ingredients in saucepan, heat to melt
    cream cheese.
    Add:
    2 c. chopped celery
    1 c. chopped green onions
8-12 oz. crab or imitation crab
fold in crab. then add 1 Tbsp. lemon juice,
    1 c. mayonnaise.
Spray a molding pan with PAM, and
    mold for 24 hours.

This is a great mold to take for a Christmas pot luck. Everyone loves it. I bring Ritz crackers and surround a Christmas Tree mold. It’s very festive because of the red crab and the green celery.
